Shalom!

Shalom San Miguel de Allende was established 6 years ago as an umbrella organization “dedicated to perpetuating all aspects of Jewish life and to fostering a sense of Jewish identity”, and we have worked hard to help build a dynamic Jewish community here in our beloved adopted town. Our membership is growing, and represents a wide spectrum of Jewish belief and practice. We are proud to have been able to offer a variety of religious and secular programs, classes and special events over the years-- including the conversion/return of 24 Mexican B’nai Anusim (“Hidden Jews”). We believe strongly in an active Jewish presence here, and want to expand our social, cultural, secular and charitable programming.

To do this, the Board of SSMA/CHESMA, A.C. (Comunidad Hebrea En San Miguel deAllende, Asociación Civil, the legal name of our new non-profit entity) has voted unanimously to pursue the purchase of a specific 3000 sq. ft. house in Colonia Guadiana/Allende to establish the new San Miguel de Allende Jewish Center. With your financial help we can expand our present services, offer exciting new cultural and social programming, and better establish ourselves as a proud, visible and permanent part of SMA. We could have our very own:

• beautiful and inspiring worship space and social hall for dinners and      parties, social events, cultural happenings, art exhibitions, music  recitals, yoga, folk dancing, Mah Jong… whatever interests you;
• comfortable and attractive classrooms and meeting rooms;
• café, with "haimishe" snacks
• Hebrew school (yes, there are at least a dozen Jewish children of our  members);
• a Jewish library;
• small Judaica store (where else in SMA can you get a mezuzah scroll or  yahrtzeit candle?);
• lodgings for visiting scholars-in-residence; 
• appropriate office space for CHESMA, AC  

All this and more is possible, but only with your support.
